CompassStu ("we", "us", "our") respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, how we use and protect it, and the choices you have. It applies to compassstu.com and our learning platform.

1. Who we are

CompassStu is an AI-powered upskilling platform. For any privacy question or request, contact us at support@compassstu.com.

2. What we collect

• Account data — your name and email address when you sign up (or the basic profile from Google if you use Google sign-in).
• Learning activity — your progress, lesson responses, quiz answers, submitted work, AI-generated scores and feedback, certificates, and skill data.
• Free self-check data — if you use our free diagnostic, the answers you select, the email you provide, and the result we generate.
• Usage and device data — basic analytics about how you use the platform (pages viewed, actions taken) and technical data such as browser type, collected to keep the service working and improve it.

3. How we use it

• To provide the learning experience — deliver lessons, score your work with AI, track progress, and issue certificates.
• To create and secure your account, and to communicate with you about the service (e.g. password resets, important updates).
• To send your free self-check result and occasional learning tips, where you have asked us to. You can opt out at any time.
• To understand and improve how the platform is used, and to keep it safe and reliable.

4. AI processing

Some features use third-party AI providers (currently OpenAI) to evaluate your work, power the tutor, and generate feedback. When you use these features, the relevant content you submit is sent to the provider to generate a response. We do not use your data to train third-party models, and we send only what is needed for the feature to work.

5. Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with service providers who help us run the platform, under agreements that require them to protect it:

• Supabase — database, authentication, and storage.
• Vercel — website hosting.
• OpenAI — AI evaluation and tutoring features.
• Sentry — error monitoring, to detect and fix problems.

We may also disclose data if required by law.

6. How long we keep it

We keep your account and learning data for as long as your account is active. If you ask us to delete your account, we will delete or anonymise your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we must keep it to meet legal obligations.

7. Your rights

You can access, correct, or delete your personal data, and withdraw consent to marketing emails at any time. To make a request, email support@compassstu.com and we will respond within a reasonable time. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as Singapore's PDPA or the EU/UK GDPR.

8. Cookies and analytics

We use a small amount of local storage and cookies to keep you signed in, remember your theme preference, and understand usage. You can clear these through your browser settings; some features may not work without them.

9. Security

We use industry-standard measures — including access controls and encryption in transit — to protect your data. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information and review our practices regularly.

10. Children

CompassStu is intended for adults and is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 16.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the updated version here with a new "last updated" date, and notify you of material changes where appropriate.
